We are excited to share that our colleague, Segen Zeray, Project Manager with the UC San Diego Center for Community Health's Refugee and Immigrant Health Unit, has been selected as a 2026–2027 Global Health Corps U.S. Leadership Accelerator Fellow.

Global Health Corps is a nationally competitive leadership program that invests in emerging public health leaders working to improve the health outcomes of diverse communities across the United States. Over the next nine months, Segen will participate in leadership coaching, mentorship, and professional development while collaborating with a national network of changemakers. She will apply all she learns and grows in, to her current role at CCH.

Since joining our team, Segen has helped implement and evaluate community-centered initiatives that improve health outcomes for our most vulnerable communities across San Diego. Her work spans perinatal health, youth leadership, economic mobility, and health advocacy in partnership with community and other diverse stakeholders. Drawing on both her professional and lived experience as a first-generation Eritrean American and former refugee, she is passionate about advancing culturally responsive, trauma-informed approaches that address the social determinants of health and strengthen community-led solutions.

Segen holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Global Health from UC San Diego. Her selection for the Global Health Corps Leadership Accelerator reflects not only her commitment to improving health and well-being, but also the Center for Community Health's investment in developing leaders who partner with communities to create lasting change.

We are proud to celebrate this achievement and look forward to seeing how the fellowship further strengthens our work alongside our community partners.
