UC San Diego recently received a Live Well San Diego designation from the County of San Diego.

The proclamation itself was brief, but the moment meant a lot to many of us who have worked alongside the County and community partners over time.

For those of us at the UC San Diego Center for Community Health, it felt like a meaningful recognition of the partnerships that have grown across San Diego. For almost three decades, our team has worked with County leaders, community organizations, and residents to design and advance initiatives that support healthier communities.

This work shows up in many ways,  through programs like ¡Más Fresco! Plus, our CalFresh Healthy Living partnerships, the County Childhood Obesity Initiative, and other prevention efforts that have been built together across the region.

The moment reflected something many of us have seen firsthand: improving community health is never the work of one institution. It happens because residents, community organizations, public agencies, health systems, and universities choose to work together.

We are grateful to our County partners, our UC San Diego colleagues, and the many community leaders who continue to move this work forward.
